Afterglow mobile MMORPG adds offline progression

Shadow Council launched Afterglow on Android and iOS; the post-apocalyptic sandbox MMORPG lets players queue gathering, crafting and combat to progress offline.

Shadow Council has launched Afterglow, a post-apocalyptic sandbox MMORPG, on Android and iOS. The game entered an alpha test in July 2025 and arrived after a delay from its originally planned 2025 release. Players can download it from the Google Play Store and the App Store.

Afterglow is set in an alternate 1980s-inspired world 77 years after a global nuclear conflict. Players begin as refugees arriving in the American Southwest, where they scavenge artifacts, investigate anomalies and navigate hazardous zones.

The game uses skill-based progression instead of fixed classes. Players can develop characters as traders, warriors, explorers or hybrids by investing in more than 50 individual skills. Shadow Council said the system allows varied builds through player choice.

A core feature is offline progression. Players can queue actions such as gathering resources, crafting equipment, exploring locations and engaging enemies; queued actions complete while the player is not logged in. Combat is turn-based and can be resolved using an auto-battle system that handles encounters automatically, with the option for players to take manual control.

Afterglow includes a player-driven economy, trading, clan membership and tiered PvP options. The studio reported the launch build contains more than 1,000 items, 11 weapon types, five armor classes and a range of enemies and resources. Shadow Council has stated there are no pay-to-win mechanics in the current version.

Shadow Council outlined planned updates for future releases, including PvP arenas, elite enemies and dungeons to expand endgame content and competitive play. The studio described queued offline actions and skill-based advancement as design choices intended to support players who cannot commit to continuous play sessions.

Afterglow arrives as one of several recent mobile MMORPGs that emphasize asynchronous play and deeper character customization. The game is available now on Android and iOS.
