Bethesda Confirms Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remasters

Bethesda confirmed remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas and said Obsidian Entertainment is developing a new Fallout title. No release dates were given.

Bethesda confirmed that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development and that Obsidian Entertainment is working on a new Fallout project. The publisher did not provide release dates or target windows.

The announcements appeared in an update laying out the franchise’s near-term plans. Both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas were described as remasters, but Bethesda did not specify the scope of the work or the technical approach to be used.

The company did not say whether the remasters will be limited to resolution and performance updates or will include more extensive visual or gameplay changes. No platform targets or system requirements were announced.

Obsidian Entertainment, which developed Fallout: New Vegas in 2010, is returning to the series. Bethesda added that Obsidian is developing a new Fallout title and that further information will be released at a later date.

Several members of the Obsidian team previously worked at Black Isle, the studio behind the original Fallout games. Bethesda did not provide a development timeline or confirm how large the Obsidian team on the project will be.

The announcement followed an Xbox organizational restructuring by Microsoft that identified Bethesda among units seeing workforce reductions. Bethesda presented the remasters and the Obsidian project as part of a broader update on the studio’s plans.

Bethesda also said a new numbered Fallout entry remains an eventual objective. For now, the only confirmed items are the two remasters and the Obsidian project; detailed technical plans, release dates and a full roadmap were not disclosed.
