Twelve-year-old The Binding of Isaac hits 109,557 peak

Twelve years after release, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth reached 109,557 concurrent Steam players after a 90% discount during the Steam Summer Sale.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth reached a new Steam concurrent-player peak of 109,557 after a 90% discount during the Steam Summer Sale.

The spike occurred within a 24-hour window of the sale, pushing the game past 100,000 concurrent users for the first time and topping its previous record of about 70,000 players.

During the sale the base game was listed at $1.49 / £1.09 while the complete package with all expansions was listed at $5.06 / £3.70.

Rebirth is a rebuilt version of Edmund McMillen’s indie roguelike, remade in a custom engine by publisher Nicalis and expanded over time with multiple add-ons. The game uses room-by-room dungeon layouts, twin-stick shooter combat and run-based randomness.

The title began as a Flash game roughly 15 years ago and Rebirth released 12 years ago. Since Rebirth’s launch, developers have added expansions, new items and online multiplayer features.

Store data shows the player count rose sharply while the sale was live, with the new peak occurring during that 24-hour period. The listing and discount prices were available on the Steam store during the Steam Summer Sale.

The recent peak is the highest lifetime concurrent-player figure for the title on Steam and occurred during the platform-wide summer sale.
