Black Desert Mobile overhauls combat with Transcendent classes

Pearl Abyss merged Ascension and Awakening into a single Transcendent class system and raised active skill caps to level 20 with an Advanced Skillbook in this week’s update.

Pearl Abyss released a combat overhaul for Black Desert Mobile this week. The update merges the Ascension and Awakening class types into a single Transcendent class system and raises active skill caps to level 20 via a new Advanced Skillbook.

The Transcendent system consolidates the previous separate Ascension and Awakening mechanics and progression into one structure. Players can use the Advanced Skillbook item to increase active skill levels up to 20.

The update also introduces Skill Sigils, which add extra effects to specific skills, and weapon specialisations, which change how certain weapons behave within the new class framework. These additions change available build options and provide new customization for combat roles.

Combat animations and visual effects were revised to make actions clearer on screen and to increase visual impact during fights. The developer described the visual changes as intended to help players read encounters more easily.

The system had been in testing since April. Feedback during testing and after the live release has been mixed: some players welcomed the clearer visuals and higher skill ceilings, while others opposed changes that alter long-standing gameplay patterns.

Patch notes list additional combat adjustments and visual refinements; the developer did not publish every minor change. Players logging in after the update will find the new Transcendent class category, the Advanced Skillbook for raising active skills, Skill Sigils, weapon specialisations, and the revised combat presentation.

Pearl Abyss framed the overhaul as an effort to refresh core combat systems while retaining existing class identities and said player testing informed some adjustments included in the live update.
