Bungie removes Marathon weapon skins after rendering bug

Four Arcana Crusade weapon skins were removed after unfinished art caused rendering errors; Bungie preserved ownership and will restore the skins with the July 21 update.

Bungie pulled four weapon skins from the Arcana Crusade pack in Marathon after unfinished art caused them to render incorrectly, appearing mostly invisible or as a bright, color‑shifting block. The studio confirmed ownership of purchased skins will be preserved and said the items will return with the mid‑season update scheduled for Tuesday, July 21.

The issue was most visible on the Bully SMG, which in some players’ games appeared as a rotating block that cycled through the color spectrum. Community posts gave the glitch the nickname “RGBully,” and some players asked whether the effect could be released as a novelty skin.

Bungie removed the affected designs from use while it prepares a fix for the rendering problem. The developer wrote that the skins will remain unavailable until the patch is deployed and that anyone who bought them will regain access after the update. In a lighter remark, Bungie added, “The RGBully will always remember this time with you fondly.”

The studio said it will publish a blog later in the week with more details about the mid‑season update, noting, “we know we’ve been a little quiet out here.” Planned additions include a Vault Breaker mode that allows repeatable access to the endgame Cryo Archive while preventing its loot from entering Marathon’s main economy, plus balance changes, targeted weapon adjustments, and a buff to Cradle progression.

Bungie asked players for feedback on Marathon’s current state and said the team has been “working hard to make a story that can be injected into as much of Marathon as possible.” The studio has also navigated company changes, including layoffs, while maintaining support for other titles.

Players who own the Arcana Crusade skins should be able to re‑equip them once the developer deploys the patch on or after July 21, Bungie said.
