Castlevania (1986) free on iOS and Android until Oct. 24

Konami released Castlevania: 40th Anniversary, a mobile version of the original 1986 Castlevania, on iOS and Android. The title can be claimed for free through Oct. 24.

The port reproduces the Famicom-era side-scroller in which players control Simon Belmont as he moves through the fortress of Castlevania to confront Dracula. The game preserves the original platforming challenges and boss encounters and has been adapted to modern device screens by altering the aspect ratio. Some users have reported that the presentation appears awkward or rough around the edges.

The mobile release is one element of Konami’s 40th-anniversary activities, which include sales of Castlevania titles across multiple platforms. Later entries, including Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, are not included in the mobile offering, and Konami has not announced a related PC re-release.

Players who want the free copy must download the Castlevania: 40th Anniversary app on iOS or Android and claim the game before Oct. 24. After that date the free claim will no longer be available.
