Cat Isle review: a tiny island teeming with cats

Cat Isle, developed and published by domkegames and pixelduckoo, launched July 20, 2026 for PC and Mac on Steam and is priced at $5.99. The game places players in charge of a small island made up of shops that cater to visiting feline customers.

Each day players open the island by ringing a bell; cats arrive by train to browse, eat, drink, fish and nap. The core loop uses supply-and-demand mechanics: players stock items, monitor cats’ reactions and adjust quantities to match preferences. Cats provide visible hints and indicate satisfaction; the in-game prompt reads “purrfect” when preferences are met. The game applies small penalties for overstocking.

Players can pet cats, fish in a mini-game and decorate shop interiors. Decoration affects shop reputation and the size of tips left by customers. Some cats drop small gifts during visits that provide additional items or currency for the player.

Progression is arranged across five themed islands, including Newcomers Island, Fisherman’s Isle and Nature’s Sanctuary. Each island sets tasks such as reaching sales targets or meeting specific decoration requirements. After completing the five main islands, the game offers sandbox and creative modes without timers or mandatory objectives.

The island contains a gashapon machine that dispenses decorative items for 100 in-game coins. The game uses soft pixel art in a palette of pinks, browns and greens and includes ambient audio such as coins, water and cat purrs. The reviewer reported stable performance on PC and no major technical issues during testing.

The review noted minor usability issues: the fishing mechanic can feel awkward and learning precise food quantities for some cat preferences may require several attempts.
