CounterSide to Shut Down Aug. 26, 2026; Studio Bside Plans Reboot
Studio Bside will end service for CounterSide on Aug. 26, 2026, and plans a reboot after reorganization; downloads and in-app purchases are already disabled.
Studio Bside announced that its turn-based RPG CounterSide will end service on Aug. 26, 2026. The company said it plans to relaunch the title through a future reboot project after a period of reorganization.
The studio confirmed the end-of-service date on its official site and said the decision followed extensive internal discussion. Downloads and in-app purchases were disabled after the game’s most recent maintenance. Players can continue to access the game until Aug. 26, 2026. Studio Bside has added daily farewell rewards: players may claim 300 Admin Coins each day from their in-game mailbox to spend in special shop packages. The company said details on refunds will be provided later.
CounterSide launched in February 2020 and reached a global audience in 2022. The turn-based, gacha-style urban fantasy is noted for its Live2D character animation, soundtrack and narrative. Studio Bside also will close Cafe Strega, the game’s offline community space, when service ends.
Content updates for CounterSide stopped on April 29, 2026, and Head Producer Hyunsoo Kim stepped down. Ryu Geumtae, CEO of Studio Bside, wrote on the site, “Though we are filled with regret, after extensive internal discussion, we have reached the conclusion that the time has come to pause the story of CounterSide.”
The studio said the pause is intended to allow the team to revisit the game’s foundations and present a renewed vision for the title. No firm timeline or development details for the reboot were provided in the announcement.
Players and community members reacted with disappointment and nostalgia, noting CounterSide’s visuals, music and character-driven story. Studio Bside said it will continue to operate through the remaining service window to support the community and manage refunds and other end-of-service processes.
Further information about refunds, transitional services and future plans will be posted on Studio Bside’s official channels as it becomes available.
