CS2 patch encrypts demo chat, adds Cache spawns
Valve’s CS2 update encrypts demo chat to hide team messages and limits global chat to the in-game watch UI. The patch adds a CT competitive spawn and multiple T spawns on Cache.
Valve has released a Counter-Strike 2 update that encrypts chat in demo files and introduces spawn and geometry changes to the Cache map. The patch is live for all players.
Valve’s patch notes state, “chat is now encrypted in demo files using the same rules as CS:GO.” The change hides team chat during demo playback and makes global chat readable only when played back through the game’s in‑client watch interface. The encryption applies to demo files created by CS2 and follows the handling previously used in CS:GO.
The update responds to reports that external tracking tools had scanned stored chat logs and published counts of offensive language. Those public tallies produced leaderboard-style rankings of players with high counts of abusive messages, which players reported created an incentive for deliberate abuse.
On Cache, the patch fixes multiple geometry issues that produced gaps and removes a wallbang exploit on B site. Map layout edits include the addition of one competitive spawn point for counter‑terrorists and several new spawn locations for terrorists. Valve’s notes list other bug fixes affecting gameplay on the overhauled Cache, which returned to the official rotation earlier this year.
The update also changes map scripting and spectator controls. New commands control player camera behavior, and a setting lets observers view the user interface as the player they are spectating. Valve addressed bugs that could occur when switching between different spectator targets.
The patch is available immediately. Valve’s notes indicate the studio will continue refining maps and spectator features and adjusting how match data is stored and accessed to address player privacy concerns raised earlier this year.
