Dawn of War IV delayed to December for extra polish
King Art Games delayed Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV to Dec. 3, 2026, citing performance work, bug fixes and gameplay polish after community playtests; Commander Edition early access begins Nov. 30.
King Art Games has moved the release date for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV to December 3, 2026. The studio announced the extra development time will be used for performance optimization, bug fixes and gameplay polish after recent community playtests. Players who buy the Commander Edition will get a three-day early access window starting November 30. Both the standard and Commander editions are available to pre-order with a 10% discount.
The studio said it will incorporate community feedback into the final build and focus on refining core systems rather than meeting the original September launch. Development will continue at full pace, and King Art plans to publish additional Battlefield Reports, gameplay showcases and developer deep dives ahead of release.
King Art highlighted performance work, bug fixing and general gameplay polish as priorities for the extended schedule. The studio also noted the new date avoids a crowded September release calendar and gives the title more room at launch.
Alongside the new launch date, King Art released an updated Year One roadmap. Free post-launch updates planned through spring and summer 2027 include the return of Crusade Mode, new map packs, a Mission Editor and two new commanders, Lord Ahmnok and Guzcutta. Two paid story expansions are scheduled for Year One: a Blood Ravens prologue and a larger Aftermath campaign that will add a new playable faction. Exact release dates for these items have not been set and the studio cautioned that roadmap windows may change.
“We saw an opportunity in these final stages to push the game closer to our original vision, rather than compromise on quality to hit the original date,” Creative Director Jan Theysen wrote in a studio statement.
Dawn of War IV is the next mainline entry in the Warhammer 40,000 real-time strategy series. King Art described the updated timetable and roadmap as the final phase of pre-release work intended to deliver a polished launch and a steady stream of post-release content through Year One.
