Developers still trust Roblox despite AI tools

At RDC 2026 Roblox introduced Build and Reality, AI tools that auto-generate games and photorealistic textures. Several veteran creators expressed continued trust in the company’s support for existing workflows.
At the RDC 2026 creators conference, Roblox announced two new AI tools. Roblox Build can generate a playable game from a single sentence in a large language model chat in about 15 minutes. Roblox Reality produces additional texture layers and environmental effects, including photorealistic surfaces, snow and individual hairs. Roblox presented the features as ways to speed prototyping and lower the barrier to entry for new creators.
The announcements prompted debate among developers. Concerns included increased competition from quickly generated games, disruption to current workflows, the risk of creators becoming dependent on automated tools and negative reactions from some younger players. Despite those concerns, several long-time creators expressed trust in Roblox’s approach to the platform.
Adam Whitney of Last Level studios pointed to Roblox’s history of maintaining backward compatibility and described the company’s record as additive rather than replacement. Whitney recalled a conversation with Nick Tornow, Roblox’s SVP of Engine and Creator Engineering, who reassured him that core systems would remain supported. Whitney quoted Tornow: “They actually want to continue to support everything forever,” and added that it “doesn’t sound like they’re going to stop me from creating the way that I’ve always created.”
Oisín Sloan-Starr, known on the platform as Younite and active in organizing community events and awards, acknowledged personal concerns about generative AI but expressed confidence in Roblox’s intentions. He noted that original, distinctive ideas continue to find an audience and that the platform’s recommendation system still rewards games that engage players.
Onnett, the developer behind Bee Swarm Simulator, described himself as strongly opposed to AI while also confirming continued trust in Roblox based on past experiences. Other creators reported preparing for uncertainty by expanding their own studios or testing multiple development approaches to avoid dependence on any single toolset.
Developers recalled previous instances when Roblox faced community backlash and adjusted course after creator feedback. The company framed Build and Reality as additions to its creator tools rather than replacements for existing systems. How creators and players adopt the new features will determine their longer-term effects on the platform.
The new features are part of a broader industry shift toward generative tools in game development. Many experienced creators plan to continue using established workflows while experimenting with the AI systems.
