Fatal Fury posts record watch time at EWC 2026 despite lower peak
Fatal Fury at the Esports World Cup 2026 posted its highest total watch time on record while peak concurrent viewers fell 41.16% from 2025.
Fatal Fury at the Esports World Cup 2026 reached a new high for total watch time even as peak concurrent viewership declined 41.16% from last year. Organizers’ viewership data showed the tournament drew its largest cumulative audience to date during the event held last week.
Peak concurrent viewership reached 36,137 during the semifinal between Luis Guadalupe “DarkAngel” Castillo Gomez and Naoki “Nemo” Nemoto. The match ended 5-3 in favor of DarkAngel, who went on to win the tournament and the $250,000 first prize. The runner-up took $130,000 from a $1 million prize pool.
Organizers doubled the player field from 16 in 2025 to 32 in 2026. The larger roster contributed to higher overall watch time even as headline peak numbers were lower than the previous year. The event finished as the most-watched Fatal Fury competition on record and placed fifth among the fighting game’s most popular tournaments so far in 2026.
Viewership shifted by language. English-language watch time fell 45.85% year over year and English-language peak concurrent viewership dropped 78.06% after the last English-speaking competitors were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Finals Bracket. Reynald “Reynald” Tacsuan was the highest-finishing player from an English-speaking country, placing seventh.
Japanese-language engagement rose: watch time increased 106.13% and peak Japanese viewers grew by about 3,000, supported by three of the top four finishers representing Japan.
Platform shares changed alongside the audience makeup. Twitch’s share of total watch time decreased by more than 15% compared with 2025 while YouTube’s share grew by nearly 20%. Twitch’s peak concurrent viewership fell 63.31%, narrowly exceeding 10,000 viewers for the tournament.
The tournament produced a club milestone. DarkAngel’s victory made Natus Vincere (NAVI) the first club to win a championship at the Esports World Cup 2026. NAVI sits level at the top of the Club Championship standings with 100 Thieves, winners in Valorant, and UNLIMIT, champions in Apex Legends.
Organizers said they will continue to publish daily results and viewership figures for the Esports World Cup 2026 as the series progresses.
