FF14’s FF7 crossover is live, with gender-locked outfits
Final Fantasy 14’s first Final Fantasy 7 Remake crossover is live. It adds the limited-time Keybound Brawler typing game and Tifa and Barret outfits restricted by character gender.
Final Fantasy 14’s first Final Fantasy 7 Remake collaboration launched Wednesday, Oct. 28. The event will run until the release of patch 8.0, which is scheduled for January 2027.
The collaboration introduces Keybound Brawler, a limited-time typing game at the Manderville Gold Saucer. Players can compete alone or in groups of up to four by typing terms linked to Final Fantasy 7 while fighting enemies such as Shinra soldiers in locations based on the remake series.
Players can start the event by speaking with the Catlike Mammet in the Gold Saucer’s main entrance hall at X:5.4, Y:7.0. The quest “Keyward Bound” sends them to Wonder Square, where the Miqo’te attendant W’zazanh directs them to a Final Fantasy 7-themed hub for matches and rewards.
Matches award MGC, a currency used at the event’s limited-time vendor. Rewards include clothing sets based on Tifa and Barret, Barret’s gatling-gun arm as a fashion accessory, a Wind-up Barret minion, a Magitek Scorpion mount, a Framer’s Kit and a Keybound Brawler emote.
The reward clothing is restricted by character gender. Players cannot use the Tifa and Barret sets across all character models. Three Orchestrion Rolls add music from Final Fantasy 7, including the Gold Saucer theme, “Let the Battles Begin” and “Fight On.”
Keybound Brawler is the first themed release for a new Gold Saucer attraction. Game Director Naoki Yoshida has described it as a format that can support future collaborations with other games and media. The event’s designs and rewards are not guaranteed to return, and the vendor will remain available only while the event is active.
Most USB keyboards should work with the console versions of Final Fantasy 14, allowing PlayStation players to enter typing challenges. Players gain access to the Gold Saucer at level 15 after completing the early main scenario quests that introduce the game’s three starting cities. They can then accept “It Could Happen to You” from the Well-heeled Youth in Ul’dah.
A larger Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy 7 collaboration, the Evercold raid series “Beyond the Lifestream,” is planned for 2027.
