Foretales free on Epic Games Store July 23–30

Epic Games Store is offering the game Foretales free to claim from Thursday, July 23 at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET / 4 p.m. BST / 5 p.m. CEST through Thursday, July 30 at 8 a.m. PT. Once claimed, the title remains in a user’s Epic library.

Players take the role of Volepain, an anthropomorphic shoebill thief. Foretales uses a deck of cards to determine actions, events and outcomes, and the choices players make influence branching storylines and multiple endings.

Gameplay mixes narrative choices with deck-management mechanics. Cards are used to perform actions, trigger events and resolve conflicts. Encounters can be handled through combat or non-combat options, and players must manage resources such as skills and consumable items. One example of a non-violent option is a “fame” card that can cause an opponent to flee instead of fighting.

The game’s narration is provided by actor Travis Willingham. The developers describe Foretales as “a card-based narrative journey” with “expansive branching storylines with multiple endings” and a “unique ‘board game’ feel.” Players’ card selections and actions determine how the cursed world’s story unfolds.

Epic’s weekly free title program periodically makes full games available at no cost for a limited time; Foretales is the store’s free offering for the July 23–30 window. Players can claim the game through the Epic Games Store during the stated period and keep it in their library afterward.
