Gears of War E-Day beta adds 4v4 Versus for first weekend

After player backlash, The Coalition added 4v4 Versus to the first weekend of Gears of War E-Day early access. Pre-order players can now play both Versus and Horde Siege.
The Coalition added 4v4 PvP Versus to the first weekend of the Gears of War E-Day early access beta after players raised objections to the original schedule. Both Versus and Horde Siege are now available to players who pre-ordered the Standard or Premium Edition, and the developer implemented the change the same day it received feedback.
Early access began today for pre-order players. An X post from The Coalition said it had listened and announced that PvP Versus was being added to the weekend and made available for pre-download. The studio confirmed both Horde Siege and 4v4 Versus will be playable throughout this first weekend and will continue into the open beta’s second weekend.
The beta runs across two weekends in August. The open beta, free to Game Pass subscribers and to players who did not pre-order, starts on the second weekend later this month. Completing either beta mode awards exclusive cosmetic items that will carry over to the full game, which is scheduled to launch on October 6, 2026. Players who buy the Premium Edition will get access to the full game five days earlier, on October 1.
Horde Siege is a 12-player PvE mode that places three squads of four players against waves of Locust across large city maps. Versus is the series’ standard 4v4 competitive mode. The initial schedule had reserved Horde Siege for the first weekend and Versus for the second, which prompted complaints from pre-order players who expected both headline modes during early access.
Players posted complaints on social platforms after early access began, saying they had paid for early access but received only a single headline mode. The Coalition adjusted the beta schedule and enabled pre-download of Versus for early access participants. The studio has not announced additional beta schedule changes beyond confirming that both headline modes will run across both weekends.
