GTA 6 will be digital-only, publisher confirms

Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be released on a physical disc; Rockstar Games and Take-Two confirm a digital-only launch for standard editions on current platforms.

Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive confirmed Grand Theft Auto 6 will be distributed digitally and will not receive a physical disc release. The policy applies to standard editions on current consoles and PC worldwide.

The confirmation followed reports and posts on social media and gaming forums suggesting a boxed release. Retailers that had listed physical preorders were notified that those orders will be fulfilled as download codes or digital purchases. Each retailer will handle preorders and returns under its own terms.

Take-Two cited technical limits and development practices as reasons for the distribution plan, noting that modern open-world games often exceed the storage capacity of single-disc formats and depend on post-launch updates and online services. The publisher will focus initial distribution on digital storefronts.

The companies said they are open to offering collector products and special boxed bundles that do not include an installable disc. Any such packages would contain non-installable items such as steelbooks, art books or other physical collectibles.

Previous numbered entries in the franchise were widely released on disc. For final details on editions, platforms and availability, customers are advised to consult official developer and publisher channels for confirmed information.
