GTA 6 fans raise over $50,000 for man awaiting lung transplant

Fans of Grand Theft Auto VI raised over $50,000 for 25-year-old Jerry Fort’s lung transplant after his viral hospital video, hoping he survives until the Nov. 19 launch.

Jerry Fort, 25, has received more than $50,000 in online donations to help cover a lung transplant and related expenses after a hospital video he posted gained wide attention. Fort posts on TikTok as Void Only and has lived with intersectional lung disease since age 17.

On Aug. 8 he posted a clip from his intensive care bed describing progressively stiff and damaged lungs and growing difficulty breathing. He captioned the post, “Rockstar and their delays, man.” The clip drew roughly 8 million views within two days.

Fort did not request anything from the game developer in his posts and thanked people for their support. He wrote that he would stream the next Grand Theft Auto as soon as he is able after recovery.

The fundraising drive was organized by his mother, Paris Fort, through a GoFundMe page to cover the transplant, relocation for treatment and months of recovery during which she expects to be out of work. The fundraiser surpassed its initial target and neared $66,000 at the latest update. Donor comments include offers to buy him the game and promises to join his stream.

His medical team expects him to come through the surgery, according to updates from his family. A lung transplant requires a compatible donor match and can involve hospital bills, travel and extended rehabilitation.

Developers have on occasion granted private early access to seriously ill fans, but such cases are rare and handled individually rather than as company policy. Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed twice in development; an extended look at the game is scheduled for Aug. 27 and the official release date is Nov. 19.

Fort wrote that if his surgery and recovery go well he plans to stream Grand Theft Auto VI at launch. Donors who contributed to the fund have written that they plan to be in his chat that day.
