GTA 6 ‘plays best on PS5’ in co-written PlayStation post

A PlayStation Blog post co-written by Sony and Rockstar stated Grand Theft Auto 6 ‘plays best on PS5,’ prompting speculation over a possible Sony marketing arrangement.

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games co-wrote a PlayStation Blog post that stated Grand Theft Auto 6 ‘plays best on PS5.’ The post, credited to SIE marketing senior vice president Mary Yee and Rockstar Games, highlighted the companies’ collaboration and focused on PlayStation hardware features. The phrasing prompted speculation about a possible Sony marketing arrangement tied to the game’s launch.

The blog detailed how the game will use the DualSense controller’s haptics, adaptive triggers and integrated speaker, Sony’s Tempest 3D AudioTech for positional sound, and the PS5 solid-state drive for faster loading. The post did not mention the Xbox Series X|S version.

Sony and Rockstar did not announce any formal exclusivity or disclose commercial terms. Console manufacturers have in the past paid for promotional tie-ins on multiplatform releases, including console bundles, branded campaigns, timed trials and prominent storefront placement.

Rockstar’s message on pre-orders and pricing ran alongside the PlayStation Blog post. GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders open at midnight local time on June 25; the standard edition is priced at $80 and the Ultimate Edition at $100.

The post did not identify any exclusive in-game content or timed features. No marketing agreement has been confirmed. The technical points in the blog describe how PS5 hardware can be used to enhance the game’s presentation.
