GTA 6 PS5 Requirement Rises Amid Jailbreak Reports

Grand Theft Auto VI reportedly now requires PS5 system software 14.22.00.00 or newer, up from 14.10.00.00, which could prevent it from running on jailbroken consoles.

Grand Theft Auto VI’s minimum PS5 system software requirement has reportedly increased to version 14.22.00.00 from 14.10.00.00. The change comes ahead of the game’s scheduled launch on Nov. 19, 2026.

The updated requirement appears in PlayStation Store data. The earlier 14.10.00.00 requirement was recorded in October. Reports later indicated that hackers had compromised that version.

PS5 jailbreaks allow consoles running older system software to execute unauthorized software, including pirated games. Jailbroken consoles generally cannot install newer firmware without losing access to the jailbreak. Games requiring a newer system version may therefore fail to run on those consoles.

The compromised 14.10.00.00 version was also linked to concerns about unauthorized copies of Grand Theft Auto VI running through PS5 emulation on PCs before the official release. Requiring version 14.22.00.00 or newer may limit access on consoles using older software.

Rockstar Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment have not confirmed that the updated requirement was introduced to block jailbroken consoles. Neither company has announced a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on Nov. 19, 2026.
