GTA IV Mod Adds GTA V-Style Character Switching

A new fan-made mod for Grand Theft Auto IV lets players swap control among Niko Bellic, Johnny Klebitz and Luis Lopez, bringing GTA V’s three-way switch to Liberty City.
A new mod for Grand Theft Auto IV brings GTA V-style character switching to Liberty City, allowing players to swap control among Niko Bellic, Johnny Klebitz and Luis Lopez during gameplay.
The mod was created by members of the GTA modding community. It adapts the three-way protagonist system introduced in Grand Theft Auto V and applies it to GTA IV’s 2008 open-world map.
To enable multiple protagonists in the same session, the mod’s toolchain merges character models and integrates each character’s presence into the game world. The creators configured outfits, weapons and loadouts so each character retains recognizable gear while fitting into the original map and story context.
Players can switch characters during free-roam and while tackling missions, using different perspectives and equipment tied to each protagonist. The system follows GTA V’s approach of allowing swaps during missions and exploration.
Grand Theft Auto IV launched in 2008. Its episodic expansions, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, focus on Johnny Klebitz and Luis Lopez. Grand Theft Auto V introduced the three-character switch in 2013.
The mod is available through established mod repositories. Installation requires following the creators’ instructions to ensure compatibility with a user’s copy of GTA IV and backing up game files before installing mods.
The project is part of ongoing community efforts to update older games by adding modern mechanics, quality-of-life changes and additional content.
