Hillthorn sends players up a mountain to find a missing child

Raw Fury and Fool Moon announced Hillthorn, a wordless mystery game about finding a missing child on a mountain. It launches Nov. 10 on iOS, Android, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Raw Fury and developer Fool Moon announced Hillthorn at The MIX Fall Showcase. The wordless mystery game will launch Nov. 10 on the App Store, Google Play, Steam and Nintendo Switch.

Players take the role of an outsider sent up a mountain to investigate a child’s disappearance. The game tells its story through Clue cards instead of spoken or written dialogue. Players can examine, explore and combine the cards to piece together what happened.

The mountain’s residents belong to a closed-off group called the Flock. They distrust outsiders, so players must use the information they find to learn more from the locals.

Players have more leads to follow than they can pursue in one attempt. The game also allows them to revisit paths they missed, though returning to the mountain comes with a cost.

Hillthorn uses a card-combining system similar to the one in Cultist Simulator, which is available on mobile. While Cultist Simulator centers on occult rituals, Hillthorn uses the system to build a mystery around a child’s disappearance.
