How to upgrade weapons in Mortal Shell 2

Buy Merrick’s maps to find weapons, give spare parts to Franz to repair the Tarforge in Marrow Keep, then use the forge menu to upgrade gear with coins and resources like Ventirium and Dorsalite.

Players upgrade and level up weapons in Mortal Shell 2 through the Tarforge, a crafting station inside Marrow Keep. To use the station you must first locate weapons, repair the Tarforge, and gather specific materials and coins for upgrades.

Merrick, a merchant in Marrow Keep, sells maps that mark the locations of collectible weapons. Each map points to a region, usually containing a dungeon where the weapon is placed. Maps cost a small amount of in-game coin and remove much of the exploration guesswork for finding armaments.

The Tarforge appears inactive the first time players reach it. Spare parts required to repair the machine are placed along the main story path and are unlikely to be missed during normal progression. Handing those parts to Franz, the NPC who tends the Tarforge, restores the station.

Once Franz restores the forge, interact with the opposite side of the machine to open the upgrade menu. The interface lists weapons, sidearms, and Tarstones, showing each item’s current level, the cost to reach the next tier, and the exact materials required for advancement.

Lower upgrade tiers require coins and a material called Ventirium, both obtainable through standard play. Higher tiers require rarer resources such as Dorsalite and additional scarce materials that players must seek out across the game’s regions. All upgrade materials are available through exploration, and Merrick can exchange many materials for coins if players need an alternative.

Upgrades change a weapon’s stats and its effectiveness against tougher enemies encountered later in the campaign. The system allows players to concentrate materials on one weapon or spread them across several; a weapon taken to a higher tier will have greater stat increases than the same weapon left at a lower tier.

Mortal Shell 2 is developed by Cold Symmetry. The Tarforge mechanic coordinates weapon discovery, story progression and material collection into a single upgrade process that determines how players prepare for stronger opponents.
