ICEY 2: Dual narrators, larger maps; China mobile in 2028
XD Inc. announced ICEY 2 with dual narrators, maps about three times larger and revamped combat. Crowdfunding in China starts Oct. 1, 2026; Steam is planned for April–May 2027; mobile in China in 2028.
XD Inc. announced ICEY 2, the sequel to its 2D side‑scrolling action game. The developer outlined new systems, a larger map, a revised combat model and a crowdfunding campaign that begins in China on Oct. 1, 2026. A Steam release is planned for April–May 2027 and a mobile version is targeted for launch in China in 2028. All dates are subject to change.
The studio said development is led by a core team of about eight people. Producer Mark Shaw confirmed the crowdfunding start date and the tentative Steam window, and the company has described the project as having a larger world and a stronger narrative focus than the original title.
ICEY 2 introduces a dual narrator system that builds on the franchise’s signature fourth‑wall narration. The game will feature a single map area roughly three times the size of the first game’s map. Layouts will vary depending on player choices, with the studio aiming to encourage different playthroughs.
Combat has been reworked: heavy attacks have been removed and replaced with a parry mechanic. The original’s permanent shield has been changed to a shield activated through skills. The title also adds a Mask System that lets players equip separate masks on the left and right side, each providing distinct buffs to attacks or skills.
The sequel will include more boss encounters, with some bosses changing between the first and second playthroughs. Narrative elements continue after the events of the first game and will introduce themes involving artificial intelligence, a networked area the studio calls the Old Net, and visual elements described as weirdcore‑inspired. The developer plans to resolve mysteries left open in the original over the course of the new story.
XD Inc. has not released substantial gameplay footage; public details so far focus on structural changes and planned timing. The company cautions the development roadmap and release windows may be adjusted as work proceeds.
