IEM Cologne Major 2026 becomes sixth most-watched CS event

IEM Cologne Major 2026 reached the sixth-highest hours watched for Counter-Strike before playoffs after Stage 3 ran over 20 hours, lifting watch time by 88% and average concurrent viewers by 22.3%.
The IEM Cologne Major 2026 reached the sixth-highest total hours watched in Counter-Strike history before the start of the playoffs. Stage 3 took place at the LANXESS Arena in Cologne and, for the first time at a Major, every Stage 3 match was played as a best-of-three. That schedule expanded the broadcast to more than 20 hours and produced an 88% increase in total watch time compared with Stage 3 at the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025. Average concurrent viewership rose 22.3% and peak viewers for the phase increased by more than 25% versus Budapest.

Team Falcons’ series against Natus Vincere reached the tournament’s only million-viewer peak during Stage 3. Falcons won the deciding map to clinch a playoff berth; their opening-day match against G2 Esports fell a few thousand viewers short of one million. The Cologne Major was Falcons’ first Major appearance after entering directly into Stage 3 and their first Major with Finn ‘karrigan’ Andersen as captain.
Several pre-tournament favorites failed to advance. Natus Vincere, MOUZ and The MongolZ were eliminated in Stage 3. Underdogs 9z and BB Team claimed playoff places. 9z defeated The MongolZ in a decider match that drew a peak of 115,000 concurrent viewers on Spanish-language streams, the first time Spanish streams reached that level for Counter-Strike. 9z will face FURIA in a quarterfinal on the LANXESS Arena main stage.
BB Team advanced after coming through Stage 1 with a modified roster and beating FUT; they are scheduled to meet Aurora Gaming in the quarterfinals. The playoff bracket pairs G2 Esports with Team Spirit and Team Falcons with Team Vitality on one side, while FURIA, 9z, Aurora and BB Team occupy the other side of the draw.
Quarterfinals and semifinals will be best-of-three series on the LANXESS Arena main stage. The grand final is set as a best-of-five. Organizers and broadcasters attributed the stronger Stage 3 metrics to the longer schedule and higher viewer engagement.
