League Classic Will End In January 2027, Riot May Bring It Back

Riot Games plans to end League Classic after Season 3 of 2026, with access ending in January 2027. The mode could return later as a scheduled event.

Riot Games will end League Classic after Season 3 of 2026, with the mode scheduled to close in January 2027. Falling player numbers have led to longer queues and larger differences in player skill.

League Classic was created to let players experience earlier versions of League of Legends. It launched with older items, runes and masteries, along with 60 available champions.

The mode kept older gameplay systems while adding features such as pings and a spell buffer. Player numbers declined as more users moved to other League of Legends modes, making it harder to match players with similar skill levels.

Riot plans to continue updating League Classic before its closure. More champions will be added through patch 26.23, including Volibear, Urgot and Udyr, which were selected through player voting by the mode’s council.

A free Act II battle pass is planned for patch 26.21. It will be available to League Classic players during that patch and provide additional content before the mode ends.

Access will differ by region during the final period. Some regions will be limited to custom games, while others will have scheduled times for League Classic queues.

Riot has not confirmed whether or when League Classic will return. The company is considering bringing it back as a scheduled event with new content and changes after its planned closure in January 2027.
