Mario Kart Tour to close Sept. 30, ending online service
Nintendo’s mobile game Mario Kart Tour will end service when its servers shut on September 30, affecting the 2019 mobile release.
Nintendo has notified players via the Mario Kart Tour app that servers will close on September 30. The shutdown will end online play and related services for the mobile title launched in 2019.
After the server closure, multiplayer matches, online leaderboards and time-limited events will no longer be available. Features that require a connection to Nintendo’s servers will stop working once the shutdown takes effect.
Mario Kart Tour debuted in 2019 as a mobile adaptation of Nintendo’s kart-racing franchise, offering short races with series characters and tracks designed for phones. The game operated with seasonal content and rotating character lineups during its run.
In 2022 the game removed gacha-style mechanics as part of changes to progression and rewards. The title continued to receive updates and event content through its service period.
Players should check the Mario Kart Tour app for details on how Ruby and Gold Pass subscriptions will be handled and for guidance on purchases and account matters. The app contains Nintendo’s notices with timelines and instructions on any available refunds or changes to subscriptions.
The announcement comes as the mobile games market remains competitive and companies expand their mobile portfolios; for example, Sega completed an acquisition of Rovio and offers mobile titles including Sonic Rumble Party.
The server shutdown concludes about seven years of service for Mario Kart Tour. Nintendo’s in-app notices remain the primary source for final operational details and timelines.
