Minecraft update 26.2: Full list of biomes
Update 26.2, released June 2026, lists all Minecraft biomes across the Overworld, Nether and The End and highlights the new Dappled Forest.
Mojang released Update 26.2 in June 2026. The patch publishes a full list of biomes across the Overworld, the Nether and The End and highlights a new Overworld biome, the Dappled Forest.
The Dappled Forest appears most often near colder biomes. It contains Poplar trees in standing and fallen forms, Shelf Mushrooms and standard passive and neutral mobs such as sheep, chickens, cows, pigs, rabbits and foxes, with cold variants where appropriate. The update adds a special variant of the Abandoned Camp structure that spawns in the Dappled Forest.
The update reaffirms the inventory of Overworld biomes. Named entries include plains and its sunflower variant; forests and flower forests; Dark Forest with dark oak and woodland mansion spawns; Cherry Grove with pink Sakura wood added in 2023; swamps and Mangrove Swamp added in 2022 with mud, mangrove wood and hollow roots; jungle with cocoa and melons; taiga with spruce and podzol; snowy plains and the ice spikes variant; desert and badlands, where gold and surface-accessible mineshafts are more common; savanna with acacia and villages; mushroom fields on mycelium islands; mountain ranges; and the ocean family, including deep ocean features such as ocean monuments and underwater mineshafts.
The Pale Garden, added in December 2024, is listed for its day-night changes, Eyeblossom flowers, the Pale Oak wood type and the Creaking mob. The Creaking mob can leave Resin embedded in nearby wood blocks, which can be harvested.
Update 26.2 documents underground biomes. The Deep Dark is identified by Sculk blocks and is associated with Ancient Cities and the Warden mob. Dripstone Caves feature stalactites and stalagmites that can damage entities. Lush Caves contain glow berries, glow lichen, flowering azalea trees visible above ground, and aquatic life such as axolotls and glow squid.
Nether biomes reflect the 2020 Nether overhaul and its five primary zones. The Crimson Forest features nether wart, crimson trees and Hoglins. The Warped Forest contains warped fungus and Endermen. The Nether Wastes remain dominated by netherrack and lava. The Soul Sand Valley is marked by soul sand, slowed movement and frequent skeleton spawns. Basalt Deltas have jagged basalt terrain, magma cubes and scattered lava pits.
The update includes guidance on locating and identifying biomes in-game. On Java Edition, pressing F3 displays the current biome alongside coordinates and light level. Players can use the /locate biome command to obtain coordinates for the nearest instance of a named biome. If a biome is not present in the current dimension or not near the player, the game returns the message “could not find [biome] in reasonable distance.”
The full list in Update 26.2 is presented to clarify which biomes produce specific wood types, mobs, ores and structures. The patch consolidates biome content added across recent major releases, including the Nether update in 2020, the Caves & Cliffs changes in 2021, The Wild Update in 2022, the 1.20 release in 2023 and content added in December 2024, alongside the new Dappled Forest in June 2026.
