Modern Warfare 4 hits Game Pass Holiday 2027, not at launch

Xbox notified Game Pass members Modern Warfare 4 will join Game Pass in Holiday 2027 and will not be available at its Oct. 23, 2026 launch.

Xbox sent notifications to Game Pass subscribers saying Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will arrive on Game Pass in Holiday 2027 and will not be included at the game’s Oct. 23, 2026 launch. The messages advised members to purchase the game to play on day one.

The alert read: “Xbox Game Pass members: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 won’t be available in Game Pass at launch. Game Pass availability starts Holiday 2027. If you’d like to jump in on day one, you’ll need to purchase the game.”

Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch Oct. 23, 2026 and will feature new bullet technology, a revised movement system and major upgrades to DMZ mode.

New Call of Duty releases appeared on Game Pass at launch in the past two years, with Ultimate subscribers able to access the titles without a separate purchase; Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 were available to members on release. Earlier statements from Xbox indicated Modern Warfare 4 would not be part of Game Pass at release, and the notifications provide a specific return window.

The Holiday 2027 arrival places Modern Warfare 4 on the service after the likely next annual Call of Duty entry. Plans list a new Call of Duty title for Fall 2027 credited to Sledgehammer Games and described as a separate franchise from Black Ops and Modern Warfare, which would release before Modern Warfare 4 reaches Game Pass.

Microsoft’s gaming division has announced cost-management measures recently, and there have been reports of studio closures. The notification campaign directs players who want day-one access to purchase the game rather than wait for the Game Pass window.

Xbox confirmed Modern Warfare 4 will join Game Pass eventually. Players who want immediate access at launch must buy the game at retail or through digital stores.
