Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom launches on iOS at $24.99

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom has launched on iOS with a $24.99 price, bringing the full hand-drawn platformer to iPhone and iPad.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is now available on iOS for $24.99. The game is listed on the App Store and runs on iPhone and iPad. Players control Jin, a character who uses a sword and can transform into multiple monster forms to progress through levels.

The iOS release includes the title’s hand-drawn stages and platforming mechanics. Monster forms alter movement and combat options; players use specific transformations to solve platforming puzzles, reach new areas and defeat enemies as they advance through the Monster World Kingdom.

Ryuichi Nishizawa led development of the game. He co-founded Westone Bit Entertainment and worked on the Wonder Boy series before developing Monster Boy as a personal project. The game uses detailed 2D artwork and modern production techniques.

Controls have been adapted for touch screens while retaining jump-and-run mechanics and the mix of melee combat and form-based abilities. The App Store listing indicates the mobile edition contains the full game content found on other platforms.

Priced at $24.99, the iOS edition is higher than most free-to-play and lower-priced mobile titles. The price places the game in a premium segment on the App Store and could affect impulse purchases.

The iOS launch makes the title available on mobile devices in addition to its prior platforms, with the App Store serving as the point of sale for the mobile edition.
