Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance previews Sword and Shield

Capcom’s trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance previews new Sword and Shield tools: Boost Bracer mobility, powered-up Perfect Rush combos and Bladecoating Slash weapon oils that restore health on hit.

Capcom released a trailer in September 2026 for the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion that focuses on the Sword and Shield. The video demonstrates new actions tied to a Boost Bracer customization system and shows how consumable coatings can alter weapon behavior.

The Boost Bracer adds new mobility and attack options. A Boost Driver functions as a gap-closer, and a dash can flow into a spinning attack called Falling Bash to chain strikes. Boosted combos extend the weapon’s attack strings. The trailer shows an upgraded Perfect Rush that deals higher damage after the boost is applied.

Bladecoating Slash brings back weapon oils for the Sword and Shield. Players can apply consumable coatings to grant temporary effects to the weapon. One coating shown in the footage paints the blade green and restores health on each hit. The trailer also displays coatings that grant elemental effects or other temporary buffs.

Capcom framed these changes as part of the Boost Bracer customization system for the Ascendance expansion. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is scheduled for release in 2027. So far, Capcom has detailed eight weapons-Spear, Long Sword, Bow, Great Sword, Charge Blade, Dual Blades, Hammer, and Light Bowgun-and plans additional weapon showcases before launch.

Additional footage included other weapons to show how the Boost Bracer affects different playstyles. Full move lists, exact damage numbers and upgrade paths have not been released; Capcom plans to reveal more specifics in future showcases.
