Mortal Shell 2 launches Aug. 20 with expanded open world
Cold Symmetry will release Mortal Shell 2 on Aug. 20, 2026 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC. The standalone sequel adds a larger open world, over 60 dungeons and switchable Shell warriors.
Cold Symmetry announced Mortal Shell 2 will launch on Aug. 20, 2026 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC. The standalone sequel expands the original game’s open world, keeps its soulslike combat and lets players switch between different Shell warriors during play. The release date was revealed alongside a new trailer showing combat encounters and hostile enemies.
The standard edition will retail for $49.99. A Devout Edition, priced at $59.99, will grant 72 hours of early access and include Obsidian Skins for all eight Shells. The developer described the editions and timed access in the announcement of the release date.
Cold Symmetry says Mortal Shell 2 features larger overworld zones and more than 60 dungeons. The developer plans additional enemies and secrets across dungeons and overworld areas while retaining core systems from the first game.
The Shell system returns. Players inhabit the bodies of distinct warriors and can change Shells mid-game to adopt different weapons and tactics. Three Shells have been confirmed at launch: Tiel the Acolyte, who emphasizes mobility and hit-and-run tactics; Proxima the Broodseeker, who focuses on crowd control; and Eredrim the Venerable, who uses heavy weapons for high single-target damage.
The new trailer highlights the game’s challenging combat, varied enemy designs and environmental hazards. Cold Symmetry timed the Aug. 20 release to fall before a busy September window, aiming to avoid direct competition with multiple high-profile releases later in the year.
