Netflix’s Unhinged turns your phone into a horror game controller
Netflix releases Unhinged on June 30, a horror survival game that uses a linked phone as a controller and features voices by Zoe Kravitz, Troy Baker and Sadie Sink.
Netflix will release Unhinged on June 30. The horror survival game uses a linked phone as a second-screen controller and features voice performances by Zoe Kravitz, Troy Baker and Sadie Sink.
Players take the role of Ava, voiced by Kravitz, who wakes to a power outage in her apartment building. As Ava explores darkened corridors and rooms she encounters a man with hostile intentions and must make quick choices to survive. Players can call two characters — Claire, voiced by Sink, and Ben, voiced by Baker — to receive guidance and advance the story.
Unhinged runs through the Netflix app on a TV and pairs with a phone to track player movement. Moving the device lets players scan rooms on screen. Gameplay centers on time-limited decisions and interacting with objects in the environment. The trailer shows examples such as finding a screwdriver to open a window.
The title follows Netflix Games’ approach of offering interactive, mobile-friendly experiences to subscribers at no extra cost. The game combines cinematic voice acting with a second-screen interface to control on-screen action.
Unhinged will be available to Netflix subscribers starting June 30. A compatible phone or device is required to link to the TV stream and use the phone-as-controller features.
