Nioh 3: Hell Rising DLC arrives Aug 19 with new weapons
Koei Tecmo will release Nioh 3’s Hell Rising DLC on August 19, 2026, adding a 1651 story chapter, two weapons (Hoko and Shield combo), New Game++ and Picture Scrolls endgame mode.
Koei Tecmo will release Hell Rising, the first paid expansion for Nioh 3, on August 19, 2026. The DLC adds a new story chapter set in 1651, two weapon systems, an expanded New Game++ mode and a new Picture Scrolls endgame activity.
Hell Rising is set during the Keian Era in 1651 and follows protagonist Takechiyo after his return to Edo. The Crucible has reappeared and reports say the Shogun has already died in the future. Players join Yagyu Jubei and Rodrigo to investigate the disturbance, fighting Yokai, rebel forces, foreign alchemists and a set of new bosses. Koei Tecmo described the chapter as a standalone addition to Nioh 3’s campaign content.
The DLC introduces two weapon systems. The Hoko is a short spear that pairs with a shielding stance. The Shield combo lets players parry incoming attacks and follow immediately with a stabbing strike, or throw the shield to use it as a ranged weapon. Both weapon types include ninja variants with alternative movesets for faster, stealth-oriented builds.
Post-game progression expands with The Enlightened One’s Journey, Nioh 3’s New Game++ mode. The mode raises the level cap, improves loot pools and adjusts progression so players can continue to level characters and pursue higher-tier rewards after completing the main expansion content.
A new endgame option, Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scrolls, is available for solo and cooperative play. These are customizable encounters that players can set for preferred difficulty and rules. Victories award Picture Scroll gear with unique effects. The expansion also adds new equipment, Soul Cores and enemy types intended to refresh solo runs and online co-op sessions.
Koei Tecmo confirmed Hell Rising is the first premium expansion for Nioh 3 and announced a second paid expansion, Bloody Insurrection, for February 2027. The studio has not released pricing details or platform availability for Hell Rising in the announcement.
