No Valheim 2: Iron Gate to Expand Live Game After 1.0

Iron Gate confirmed at Gamescom 2026 there will be no Valheim 2 and that the studio will keep adding content to Valheim after the 1.0 launch.
At Gamescom 2026, Iron Gate stated it will not produce a numbered sequel to Valheim. The studio plans to leave the game’s world in place and continue releasing new content for Valheim after the 1.0 release, which marks the end of its early access period.
Valheim 1.0 arrives after five years in early access. The update introduces the Deep North biome, two new dungeons, the game’s largest enemy to date, rideable moose, mineable trolls and a cinematic ending that concludes the main storyline.
Robin “Grimmcore” Eyre, Iron Gate’s art lead and creative director, said he surveyed the community about a sequel and found a clear preference for more content inside the existing game. “The consensus was that Valheim 2 could be cool, but people really, really want more content for Valheim,” Eyre recalled. He added players asked for extended progression and more areas to explore and that the team will prioritize those requests.
Eyre pointed to prior updates as examples of how player feedback has shaped development. Elements such as Trinkets and Adrenaline were created after players requested them, and a major combat overhaul arrived from the same pressure. “We never thought we were going to make the combat update, but that came out of necessity for the community,” Eyre noted.
The studio confirmed development will continue on Valheim after the 1.0 milestone while some team members also pursue separate projects. Several developers have worked on other titles, including Eyre and producer Andreas “Lumaaah” Tomasson on the cooperative horror game Begraved, and lead engineer Jonathan Smårs on the starship-building project Starpath. Iron Gate left open the possibility of spin-offs or other projects set in the Valheim universe, but confirmed a direct Valheim 2 is not planned.
Iron Gate described the 1.0 release as providing a definitive end to the main arc while serving as a platform for future updates that add content and progression. The studio offered no release schedule for post-1.0 content at Gamescom 2026.
