Overwatch Nyan Café skins cost up to 9,900 Coins
Blizzard released the Nyan Café skins for Overwatch, with two ultra skins at 3,500 Overwatch Coins each and a full bundle priced at 9,900 Coins; players have criticized the prices.
Blizzard has released the Nyan Café cosmetic bundle for Overwatch. The pack is available in the in-game shop now and includes two “ultra” skins priced at 3,500 Overwatch Coins each and a full bundle listed at 9,900 Coins.
The package contains ultra skins for Kiriko and Sierra, new highlight intros for those characters, three legendary skins for Orisa, Ashe and Reaper, plus emotes, sprays, weapon charms and name cards. Each ultra skin adds unique sound effects and short hologram-style kill animations.
Overwatch Coins are sold in fixed tiers: 500 Coins cost $5 / £4.39 and 1,000 Coins cost $10 / £8.39. Because currency is sold in set increments, players starting from zero often must buy packs that leave leftover Coins. Acquiring 3,500 Coins requires about $35 / £29.56; the 4,500 Coin set for either Kiriko or Sierra costs roughly $40 / £34.99. The 11,800 Coin pack priced at $100 / £84.99 covers the 9,900 Coin bundle and leaves 1,900 Coins remaining. Some larger purchases include bonus Coins, but none match the 3,500 threshold without extra spend.
Players can earn a maximum of 600 Overwatch Coins from each seasonal battle pass, which does not cover the cost of an ultra skin.
Reaction among players has been critical on community forums and streams. Reddit user Lirodes32 wrote, “And I thought $60 bundles were expensive.” Another user, ExtensionSoil3801, commented, “I think we’re doomed. The literal first game of Overwatch I played and everyone has the pink cat skins…” Streamer Flats posted: “It’s just legendary skins with some extra sounds on it and a kill animation. Normally skins are $19, now it’s going to be $35? That is actually diabolical. There is no defending that. That is the price of a very good indie studio game.”
Some players pointed out that the new highlight intros appear to be close-up camera versions of emotes included in the bundle rather than fully new animations. The emotes feature five cat-themed actions, including Sierra teasing a cat with a drone and Ashe distracting one with a laser pointer.
The Nyan Café bundle is available now in the game’s in-shop interface, and community discussion about its pricing has continued since release.
