Overwatch Season 3 Adds Hero Shion and Neon Junction

Blizzard launched Overwatch Season 3, Into the Tiger’s Den, on June 16, 2026, adding DPS hero Shion, Hybrid map Neon Junction, a redesigned hero-select UI and stadium-wide balance changes.

Blizzard released Overwatch Season 3, Into the Tiger’s Den, on June 16, 2026. The update adds a new DPS hero, a Hybrid map, a redesigned hero-select interface, stadium-wide balance work and a slate of events and cosmetics.

The new hero, Shion, was revealed with a trailer one week before the season launch and followed by a gameplay teaser and a kit rundown. Shion is a damage-role hero added to the playable roster at the start of the season.

Neon Junction is a new Hybrid map set in a stylized Tokyo. The map features large mecha displays and narrow alleyways. Neon Junction enters rotation while Blizzard runs the three-week Anima Strike event to integrate the map into live play.

Blizzard deployed a redesigned hero-select user interface to address roster growth and to make picking and switching heroes during matches smoother. Ranked play restrictions on group size have been removed, and Oasis University has been added to the competitive map pool.

Stadium-wide balance work accompanies the launch. The update includes roster refreshes and larger reworks for Doomfist, Hazard, Kiriko, Sojourn and Tracer. Blizzard will trial Community Crafted adjustments to Reinhardt, Baptiste, Ashe and Sombra from June 30 through July 13 as experimental changes available in live play.

Season 3 introduces a new battle pass and returns the Excavation Initiative event, which includes Venture as a character assisting players in collecting additional loot. The Anima Strike event runs alongside Neon Junction’s introduction and offers structured opportunities to try the new map and earn event items.

Cosmetic changes include a new Ultra skin tier described by Blizzard as top-tier audiovisual cosmetics that differ between heroes. The first Ultra skins are part of a Nyan Café line for Kiriko and Sierra. Orisa, Reaper and Ashe will receive standard variations of that theme. The Street Rebels skin line blends oni motifs with streetwear and appears on multiple heroes including Junker Queen, Mercy, Mizuki and Wuyang. The season’s headliner is the Ascendant Phoenix Illari Mythic, a multi-level, multi-form cosmetic that allows progressive customization as players advance through it.

Blizzard reset seasonal numbering at the start of 2026 and framed releases under the The Reign of Talon narrative. The studio has increased the cadence of hero launches while map releases remain less frequent and include both new maps and reworks.

The Season 3 update is live as of June 16, 2026. Blizzard recommends players review current settings and guides to optimize performance under the new patch. Scheduled in-game events and experimental modes will run across the coming weeks.
