Overwatch Steam reviews rise to ‘Mixed’ as players return
Overwatch’s recent Steam reviews moved to ‘Mixed’ from ‘Mostly Negative’ as a 24-hour player peak reached about 74,000 after a rebrand and new content.
Overwatch’s recent Steam reviews shifted to ‘Mixed’ after a period in the ‘Mostly Negative’ category. More than 7,000 recent reviews were added to the game’s record of roughly 136,000 English-language reviews, producing the change in the recent-rating band.
Player activity on PC rose alongside the review change. Steam Charts shows a 24-hour peak of just over 74,000 players, with about 66,000 concurrent players at the time of reporting. In June, the game recorded a larger surge with a peak above 102,000 players. The franchise’s all-time high remains 164,636. Between January 2025 and January 2026, concurrent counts generally ranged between 45,000 and 50,000, with occasional spikes into the 60,000s.
Recent Steam reviews frequently criticize Blizzard’s pricing and microtransaction approach. One recent review reads: ‘greedy trash company, now charging $100 for a bundle, bonkers even $60 is unreasonable.’ Multiple reviewers pointed to the Nyan Cafe Ultra skins as an example; that bundle is priced at $100 and listed at £84.99 in some markets.
Blizzard returned the brand name from Overwatch 2 to Overwatch and released content updates that include the new hero Shion, a collaboration with music group YOASOBI, and seasonal events. Those additions corresponded with increased player activity on Steam.
The game’s rating history shows the recent improvement from ‘Mostly Negative’ to ‘Mixed’ after the rebrand and subsequent updates. At the time of reporting, the recent review rating was ‘Mixed’ and concurrent player counts were near 66,000.
