Pigeon: A Love Story returns to iOS and Android Aug. 6

Pigeon: A Love Story returns to iOS and Android on Aug. 6. Players fly as a pigeon through rebuilt, city-scale maps of London, Tokyo and New York to search for a soulmate.

Pigeon: A Love Story will relaunch on Aug. 6 for iOS and Android. The developer, Wristwork, rebuilt the game’s city-scale maps so players can fly as a pigeon through detailed renders of London, Tokyo and New York while seeking a mate.

Players navigate realistic city environments and visit dozens of landmarks as they encounter large flocks of potential partners. The game presents hundreds of thousands of individual pigeons across the maps; players narrow down options through in-game interactions while moving between locations.

Wristwork designed the original game around the idea of a pigeon searching for a mate among many birds and recreated urban streets and landmarks to match that concept. The relaunch uses updated mapping and performance improvements to run on recent mobile devices.

The first release in 2021 attracted attention for its concept and city-scale maps but went offline after the mapping service used to create the London map was discontinued. For the 2024 relaunch, the developer rebuilt the maps so those cities and their landmarks are available again for players to explore.

The updated mobile build will be distributed through the App Store and Google Play. Wristwork says the relaunch restores the environments that defined the original version and adapts them for contemporary phones and tablets.

Early reviews of the 2021 release described the premise as notable but noted the game did not fully realize its potential at that time. The Aug. 6 relaunch gives players another opportunity to experience the concept on current mobile hardware.
