PS5 July 2026 Update Rolls Out With Stability Fixes
Sony released PS5 system software update 26.04-13.42.00 in July 2026, bringing performance and stability fixes and replacing version 26.04-13.40.00.
Sony released PS5 system software update 26.04-13.42.00 in July 2026. The firmware replaces version 26.04-13.40.00 and is being distributed gradually to PlayStation 5 consoles.
Sony’s official patch notes list a single item for 26.04-13.42.00: improved system software performance and stability. The company typically provides limited detail for maintenance patches; similar updates in the past have addressed background optimizations, minor bug fixes and security updates.
The update is rolling out over several days. Consoles connected to the internet with automatic updates enabled should download and install the firmware without user action. To check for or install the update manually, go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
This is the sixth PS5 firmware update of 2026, following a roughly monthly release pattern. Like previous July updates, the current release focuses on system maintenance rather than adding new user-facing features.
Though the public change log is brief, keeping system software current ensures consoles run the version required for online services and game compatibility. Users can verify their firmware version at Settings > System > System Software > Console Information.
