Rare pre-launch GTA V dev-kit footage appears online

Short clips posted by an unknown uploader show an apparent pre-release build of Grand Theft Auto V with developer tools, unfinished assets and debug overlays.

Short videos posted in recent days to video-sharing sites and gaming forums by an uploader with an unknown identity and chain of custody appear to show a pre-release development-kit build of Grand Theft Auto V.

The clips show scenes in Los Santos and surrounding areas with incomplete textures, placeholder models and on-screen debug overlays such as frame counters and developer consoles. Several clips show a free camera and teleport commands used to move quickly through the environment.

Some sequences lack final audio tracks and display mission markers or labels that use working names rather than retail titles. Debug text in multiple clips shows visible build numbers and areas with missing collision.

One clip includes a debug menu listing internal feature flags and entries that resemble development-only AI behaviors. Viewers also noted changes in road layouts, vegetation placement and vehicles or props that do not appear in the released game.

Where the files originated and how old they are has not been confirmed. The uploader provided no supporting documentation, and neither the developer nor the publisher has issued a comment on the material.

Development kits are internal builds used by studios to test hardware, features and content before release. They commonly include profiling tools, commands to skip to specific scenes and unfinished art. Files from such builds sometimes surface later through leaks, archival releases or private collections.

Grand Theft Auto V was developed by Rockstar North and published by Take-Two Interactive and was first released in 2013. The title has received multiple re-releases and updates across platforms since launch.

The origin and authenticity of the surfaced footage remain unverified. Without independent confirmation, the clips provide visual examples of early development content but do not constitute an official record of specific design choices.
