Remedy: Max Payne 1 & 2 Remakes Still in Development

Remedy Entertainment says remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 remain in development and that Rockstar Games will publish the titles and control public announcements.

Remedy Entertainment confirmed in its half-year financial report that remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2 are still in development, adding that Rockstar Games will publish the projects and control external announcements.

The update responded to investor questions included in the report. Remedy told investors it cannot share development details, progress updates or tentative release dates until Rockstar authorizes public communication.

Both remakes were announced in 2022. Remedy is rebuilding the games from the ground up using its Northlight engine, with Rockstar providing funding and returning as publisher.

The original Max Payne released in 2001 and Max Payne 2 in 2003. Remedy offered no release window for the remakes and will withhold further details while Rockstar retains control of announcements.

In the same report Remedy referenced its recent titles, including Alan Wake 2 and Control, when outlining the studio’s experience updating older properties and developing at a larger scale.

Further information will be published only if Rockstar transfers or shares control over publishing and announcements. Remedy indicated it will provide updates once external communication is approved.
