Rockstar to end support for older iPhone models

Rockstar Games will drop support for older iPhone models. When each affected title receives its next major patch, players with devices that cannot meet the new minimum iOS version or hardware requirements may be unable to install updates or launch certain Rockstar iOS games.

The compatibility change is tied to an upcoming app release that raises the minimum supported iOS and requires newer hardware. Rockstar indicated the update is intended to align its mobile apps with recent software development kits and to allow performance, security and feature updates that need newer Apple frameworks.

Timing and the exact list of excluded devices will vary by game. The update will take effect on a per-title basis when each game receives its next major update. Players should check the App Store listing for each Rockstar game to confirm the minimum iOS version and device models required.

Rockstar notes that recent iOS releases and developer tools remove legacy APIs and increase performance expectations. Maintaining backward compatibility can be costly and can limit the ability to deliver graphical improvements, stability fixes and security patches. For online-enabled titles, continuing to support older clients may affect matchmaking, anti-cheat systems and network stability.

Where possible, users should update their current iPhone to the latest supported iOS.
