Rockstar urged to confirm GTA 6 PC release window
Rockstar Games has not set a PC release date for Grand Theft Auto 6. Players and journalists are asking the studio for a clear launch window.
Rockstar Games delayed Grand Theft Auto 6 from its original late-2025 launch to allow more work on the game. The studio has not confirmed whether a PC version will follow or provided any release window for PC players.
Players and industry observers point to Rockstar’s history of staggered releases as context. Grand Theft Auto 5 reached PC in April 2015, 19 months after its initial launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and five months after the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions. Red Dead Redemption 2 moved to PC a little over a year after its console debut. Grand Theft Auto 4 arrived on PC in roughly seven months. Those timelines have shaped expectations that GTA 6 will eventually come to PC.
Several explanations have been offered for staggered PC launches. One view is that developers concentrate on completing console builds before allocating engineering and testing resources to a PC edition. Others point to concerns about piracy on open platforms or a commercial strategy that encourages early console purchases and later PC sales. Rockstar has not publicly confirmed any of these reasons.
Potential buyers say confirmation of a PC release or a rough window would affect their purchase and upgrade plans. Some players who want to play on day one may buy the console edition at launch and upgrade to PC later if a port appears. Others prefer to wait for a PC version before spending on hardware or the game. On social media a commentator wrote: “A date would be nice, certainly, or at least a rough window, so I have room to think about whether I can squeeze in an upgrade for my rig.”
There is also discussion about which version will represent the game at its best. Many expect GTA 6 to be demanding on hardware, and high-end PCs could run the title with higher settings than consoles. Rockstar announced the delay with the explanation that the studio wanted to reach a level of polish it considered acceptable. Some players accept a later PC launch if it means improved quality at release.
Players and journalists continue to request at least an acknowledgement of PC plans and a launch window. A simple confirmation, even without a firm date, would allow customers to plan purchases and hardware upgrades and would reduce ongoing speculation about the game’s availability.
