Rust Common Ground adds clans, rentable shops and apartments

Facepunch’s July ‘Common Ground’ update for Rust adds a Clan system, an Apartment Complex with rentable rooms and master keys, and Rentable Shops for player-run storefronts.

Facepunch released the Common Ground update for Rust in July. The update adds two new Monuments — an Apartment Complex and Rentable Shops — a Clan system, Softcore progression and raid timing changes, and animation and cosmetic updates. The patch is available now on Rust servers.

The Apartment Complex lets players rent rooms ranging from basements to penthouses. Rentable rooms include perks tied to their location and size. A master key can be found in the world; it opens multiple rooms and can grant access at a second Monument, creating opportunities for theft as well as tenancy.

Rentable Shops allow players to run storefronts, stock items, change offerings and customize the shop sign with a chosen image. Shop owners can modify inventory and set what is on sale for visitors who come to their in-game storefronts.

Facepunch added a Clan system that expands existing team features. Patch notes state, “Clans are a more advanced version of teams where you can have more members with different roles/permissions. There is a separate clan chat channel and announcement/MoTD text for communicating with clan members.” Clans are created and managed at Clan Tables and are not available in Hardcore mode. When clan members are nearby, a player’s map view can show their locations to aid coordination.

Softcore mode received progression adjustments to increase resource gains and set raid timing. Animals, food, ore and wood now yield twice the usual resources in Softcore, increasing the pace of early crafting and base building. Servers can restrict raiding to a daily window between 6pm and 9pm server local time; players who remain inside a Tool Cupboard’s radius are protected from raids outside that window.

The update also updates player animations for sprinting while carrying a rifle or a one-handed melee weapon and adds 27 new wallpapers for base decoration. Facepunch lists a number of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements across the game in the patch notes.

Patch notes explain where to manage clans, how rentable systems function and the conditions for the Softcore multipliers and raid timing. Common Ground is live now on Rust servers.
