Sky update ‘Dear Van Gogh’ puts players inside Van Gogh paintings

Sky: Children of the Light’s ‘Dear Van Gogh’ event places players inside 3D recreations of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings and highlights letters between him and his brother Theo.

The “Dear Van Gogh” update for Sky: Children of the Light places players inside 3D recreations of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings, guiding them through scenes drawn from the artist’s life and centering on letters exchanged with his brother Theo.

The event recreates key works in three dimensions using painterly visuals designed to echo van Gogh’s textures and color palettes. Scenes span different periods of the artist’s life and include references to the support provided by Theo’s wife, Johanna.

Gameplay adapts Sky’s brushstroke mechanic so multiple players can paint the same scene in real time. Players can move through individual paintings, follow narrative threads tied to van Gogh’s life, and collaborate to add color and motion to the environments.

The update builds on the game’s existing meditative and cooperative design. It is available as part of the title’s regular releases and carries no additional charge beyond the free-to-play download.

The studio described the presentation as focusing on personal relationships and encouragement around the artist rather than solely on his hardships. An editorial description at launch called the game a “wistful, wonderful wander throughout cloudscape and dreamscape alike.”

The event is presented as an artistic tribute aimed at cooperative, exploratory mobile play and does not present a strict historical retelling.
