Soulframe Sets Nov. 6 Open Alpha For PC Players
Digital Extremes will open Soulframe’s Open Preludes to all PC players on Nov. 6 through its website. Update 17 will add new regions, a Pact and wolf mounts.
Digital Extremes will open Soulframe’s alpha to all PC players on Nov. 6 through the game’s standalone client. The fantasy MMO has previously been available through limited pre-alpha tests called Preludes, with access expanded during selected TennoCon events.
The Open Preludes will be available through the Soulframe website rather than Steam. Digital Extremes has not announced a full release date.
Update 17, titled Verse of the Veilands, is scheduled for November. It will change Midrath’s appearance and progression by spreading Ode’n corruption across Alca. Ode Syphons will drain energy from the land and affect regions across the map.
Players will complete Votives, including quests and other objectives, to unlock each region’s song. They can then use the song to cleanse the affected area. Corruption will change resources, wildlife activity and loot tables. Some events will become available after players overturn a Syphon.
“First impression is going to be a bit bleak, but there’s really great contrast on healing the zones,” Creative Director Geoff Crookes said during a preview of the update. Digital Extremes described the corrupted areas as harsher at the start of each event, with further changes occurring as players restore them.
Update 17 will introduce the Ode Strike Pact, a class focused on traps, stealth and deception. Its abilities include a spinning bola, an area-of-effect spike attack and Ode balloons that can remove enemies from combat for an extended period. The update will add new weapons and armor, including a dagger designed for the Pact.
Players will be able to ride wolf pups after training them. The mounts will retain puppy-like behavior. The update will add new fish enemies and bring back the seasonal Bita’s Eve event, which includes a mask, talisman and sickle.
Soulframe has been in limited testing since 2023. Digital Extremes has continued to revise the game’s world, combat systems and visual design while expanding access.
