S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope expansion launches Aug. 20

Cost of Hope expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 arrives Aug. 20 on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5; Update 2.0 for the base game is free the same day.
GSC Game World confirmed that Cost of Hope, the first major story expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, will launch on August 20, 2026 for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. A free Update 2.0 for the base game will be released the same day for all owners.
Cost of Hope returns players to the role of Skif, who follows a mysterious PDA signal into events running parallel to the main campaign. The developer said the expansion will provide dozens of hours of new content, including previously uncharted locations, new weapons, additional allies and enemies, and branching choices that affect missions and relationships.
The expansion centers on an escalating conflict between the Duty and Freedom factions as their fragile peace starts to break down. The new content is designed to run alongside the main game and includes new areas of the Zone, such as tunnel systems that hide unexpected encounters and threats. Player decisions in Cost of Hope will influence faction dynamics and story outcomes.
Update 2.0 is free for everyone who owns S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and includes a technical upgrade to a newer version of Unreal Engine 5, which GSC confirmed should improve visuals and performance. The patch will also add unspecified gameplay improvements and additional content; the developer indicated more detailed patch notes and system requirements will be shared ahead of launch.
GSC scheduled the expansion and the free Update 2.0 for simultaneous release on August 20, 2026 across PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 and plans to publish further information in the weeks before the release.
