Subway Surfers Paint Brawl shuts down after soft launch
Subway Surfers spinoff Paint Brawl went offline on Sept. 1, 2026, after a regional soft launch in April; developers wrote it did not meet expectations and work has shifted to other projects.
Subway Surfers Paint Brawl went offline on Sept. 1, 2026, when its servers were sunset, ending the title after a regional soft launch in April. The development team wrote that the game “did not meet our expectations” and that resources have been redirected to other projects.
The project began as Paint Brawl: Color of War at Miniclip and was later reskinned to fit the Subway Surfers franchise. It entered a regional soft launch on April 9, 2026, in the United Kingdom, Portugal and Austria to allow limited testing before wider release.
Paint Brawl was a 4v4 third-person shooter. Squirt-gun style weapons were used to cover map areas in paint and contest territory. Matches emphasized area control over player elimination. After the reskin, the release included characters and visual elements tied to the Subway Surfers IP.
Because the game required online connectivity, the servers’ closure removed access to matches and core features. Players who still have the app installed can no longer play.
The servers were active from the April soft launch until the September shutdown, leaving a short window for regional expansion or live updates. The title remained under region-locked testing before the decision to discontinue service.
Other mobile games that ended service this year include Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, which shut down on Sept. 3, 2026, and Bungo Stray Dogs: Tales of the Lost, which ended service on July 31, 2026.
