The Expanse: Osiris Reborn recasts male Captain after beta

Owlcat Games redesigned The Expanse: Osiris Reborn’s male Captain and recast his voice after beta feedback. Blythe Melin now voices the Captain and his twin, J.

Owlcat Games replaced the original voice actor for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn’s male protagonist after reviewing player feedback from the game’s beta. Blythe Melin now voices both the Captain and his twin brother, J.

The Captain is a customizable player avatar, while J is a separate character with an established personality. Owlcat describes J as more carefree and relaxed than his brother.

The studio also redesigned the Captain’s default appearance. Players can change the protagonist’s look, but Owlcat considers the preset important because many players use it as a starting point. The new design moves away from a standard military style and adds more detail to fit the setting of The Expanse. Since J is the Captain’s identical twin, the redesign applies to him as well.

Melin described voicing both characters as “an incredible joy and a unique challenge.” He worked to make sure the brothers did not sound too similar or feel “one-note.” The Captain’s role as a player avatar gave Melin less fixed personality to work with, while J’s established character provided a basis for a separate performance. Melin also credited the game’s writers and directors.

Melin’s previous credits include Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Diablo IV and Ready or Not. Owlcat has not announced the voice actor for the female Captain or the rest of the cast.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is scheduled to launch in spring 2027 for PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG. The game is also planned for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
