The Roottrees Are Dead Brings 1990s Web Mystery to Mobile

The Roottrees Are Dead is now available on iOS and Android, asking players to identify heirs to a family fortune with 1990s internet tools. The release includes a bonus mystery.
The game begins after the deaths of the wealthy Roottree family. Their cause of death is already known, so the investigation centers on tracing relatives who may be entitled to shares of the family fortune under the will of its eccentric patriarch.
Players use tools based on late-1990s technology, including early websites, photographs and online records. They compare details, link family members and create a visual family tree to determine how the people in the case are related.
The mobile release includes a second mystery, called Roottreemania. The game combines investigation with features associated with point-and-click adventures and hidden-object games. Players must draw their own conclusions from the evidence provided.
The story is set before internet access became widespread and before digital archives developed into the services commonly used today. The mobile version brings the main investigation and the additional case to iOS and Android devices.
